China Bans the Bag

China today became
the latest nation to ban plastic shopping bags— joining a list that includes Ireland, Australia, Italy, Bangladesh, and San Francisco.

According to Reuters, China "consumes 37 million barrels of crude oil each year to manufacture more than one trillion plastic bags."  To put that in perspective, it's roughly equivalent to the amount of oil
the United States imports in four days.
