The Proposed Police State

Edward Hasbrouck reports that the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is moving to finalize regulations that will require all air passengers on both domestic and international flights to obtain prior government permission before flying.  That's right: if DHS has its way, starting February 19, 2008, you won't be able to fly unless the government says you can.  This is not fiction: check the Federal Register.

Meanwhile,
AFP reports that the number of names on the Terrorist Watch List has ballooned to over 755,000— that's right, three-quarters of a million names.  Prior to 9/11/01 there were just 20 entries on the list.  Now, even my law-abiding, 17-year-old nephew is a suspect.

Has our nation gone crazy or what?  The way to protect freedom is to eliminate it?
